She is the head of the forest pathology and mycology laboratory and research team, and an active member of the INRF and the National Institute of Plant Protection (INPV) scientific councils. She is carrying a PhD on the inventory and ecological analysis of the macrofungal communities of the protected reserve of Zeralda. She is also a curator for the Outline of Fungi and Fungus-like taxa, and a translator member of the Mushroom Observer platform. Her main scientific research focuses on evaluating forest ecosystems health, by diagnosing trees for fungal diseases and evaluating trees health status, and by studying the macrofungal communities as bioindicators of the forest ecosystem health. She is also contributing to the citizen science by training ecological associations on the inventory and the identification of macrofungi. Souhila is also a botanical and ornithological artist, very inspired by nature, especially orchids, mushrooms and birds.

Main scientific publications on the subject matter since 2014

> Aouali, S. Fungal diversity in Algeria remains largely unexplored, with mycological inventories very poorly represented both regionally and internationally. The major inventories were realized during the colonization period, by René Maire, Patouillard, Robert Kühner and Henri Romagnesi. Some recent studies have added to the knowledge of the Algerian macrofungal diversity, such as those of Nezzar (1996), Djelloul (2014), and Lachichi (2014), Aouali et al. (2014), Aouali (2018, 2021, 2023). In this presentation we will learn about Algerian mycology. We will first present a historical overview, then its current status, and finally we will discuss the prospect of its future development.

<<< Souhila AOUALI Souhila Aouali, is a forest pathologist and mycologist researcher, at the forest protection division of the forest research national institute (INRF) of Algeria.
